Re: Gabor Maté on Jordan Peterson

Jordan Peterson is an admirable, courageous man. Like anyone, he has issues. Some of those issues might be what led him to obsess over the psychology of totalitarian movements, among other things, in which case thank God for his issues, since they drove him to insights we need. Dr. Maté undoubtedly ...

Re: A hypothetical for Bernardo and for YOU

But, to honor those people here who feel compelled to remind us that a silly thought experiment is certainly too simple to be enjoyed, I fully agree that C must be our stern and correct answer! :) Thank you Oh dear, now I think I want to go with D. Re: Butterfly Memory Defies Materialism

I'm going to play the skeptic here, and say that we would need to know whether relevant parts of the brain do, in fact, maintain their structure through the metamorphosis, before we could even begin to hint at the inadequacy of materialist ideas about brain and memory based on the preservation of me...

Re: Anti-Materialist Historical Materialism

"Yeah, the historical baggage that comes with terms like 'Marxism' makes it hard to get past some anachronistic interpretation, regardless of how it is re-labeled."

Re: Life after death - Is Life ultimately absurd?

I would like to point out Camus' essay, The Myth of Sisyphus. In it, he takes a very bleak view of life. According to Camus, reason demands meaning in life, but without abandoning reason in favor of fantasy (such as imagining there to be some God who endows the whole with meaning, which he considers...
