Re: Universals, particulars and nominalism under A/ idealism

Some writing... feedback welcome (ignore typos, not yet edited!) : Metaphysics If contemporary physics throws curveballs for materialism, what about philosophy? Can reasoning alone throw any light on our topic? We enter the territory of metaphysics, a field within philosophy that asks about the nat...

Universals, particulars and nominalism under A/ idealism

Just wondering whether anyone thinks the problem of universals and particulars are resolved under BK's idealism. For example, without idealism, actual objects are often thought of as particulars participating in universal forms but the problem becomes either the whole object is just universals (subt...

Re: If all is consciousnesses, why aren't all quantum states collapsed since observed?

Thanks. Helpful. That could work. That would entail dissociated consciousnesses causing actual change out there or merely on the screen of perception??

How can perceived objects lose definiteness in quantum terms if consciousness is 'ubiquitous/all'?

I'm struggling with this question. BK argues quantum superpositions are collapsed by consciousness/ observation. But if everything just *is* consciousness why are there superpositions?? He may suggest it's metaconsciousness that does it but there are objects i realise i was seeing without realising ...

Re: If all is consciousnesses, why aren't all quantum states collapsed since observed?

Thanks. I wonder how he'd answer it though as im happy with consciousness being a factor but wonder about the possible inconsistency over observed objects which he claims are indefinite until they appear on the screen of perception. The issue being.... he says everything is consciousness/ mentation ...

Re: Contingent v Necessary Mind

Thanks. Yes I'd be interested in BK dialoguing with some theologians of Hart's stature. The problem I'd have in elevating BKs M@L to divinity is the problem of evil of an impersonal, unbothered Being who is effectively into self- harm via creating /dissociative processes.

Contingent v Necessary Mind

I am reflecting on the thinking of David Bentley Hart in 'The Experience of God' and Bernardo's work. In TEOG DBH outlines God as a necessary being and contrasts God with 'objects' (or even subjects!) that are finite and contingent. My question is this: are there aspects of Mind At Large which sugge...
