Re: The Central Topic

My question is, if someone comes to you and expresses how alienated, isolated, fragmented, etc. they feel from being 'cut-off' from and out of tune with the "transcendent divine depth", what is your concrete advice for them to reestablish this spiritual connection? Would you just say, &qu...

Re: The Central Topic

The problem is: there is a bunch of these fish hanging around. Which one do we bite? Or none? And if we do want to bite, how do we know which one is true and which is fake? And even if one decides to stay away from biting any fish how do they know they are actually not biting any? Here's my take on...

Re: The Central Topic

Cleric, For my response, I couldn't improve on what Eugene said so well. The last words are key. Because this is what we see everywhere. This veil philosophy basically gives everyone carte blanche to do anything they want. Here's an example. A serial murderer may say: "MAL/God wanted to experie...

Re: The Central Topic

The best test to see if we are engaged in purely abstract metaphysics is to ask, what practical significance does my speculation have? If the veil is permeable boundary which can be negotiated by careful and concrete reasoning, why speculate on the limits to some far-distant cognitive Utopia? Wheth...

Re: The Central Topic

There is something very unique that can be only accomplished in this "veiled" environment, and for which the veil is not a hindrance, but a catalyzed, ..... I agree. There is a long history of those who want/hope/strive to remove the veil. But to what end? Utopia? Complete enlightenment? ...

Re: How to talk about God: on why God is not an object

Steve, this story is a common New Age trope. Another legend goes to Saint Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio where the Saint cuts a deal whereby the terrible wolf agrees to be kind if the townspeople feed him. On the other hand, and probably a more indigenous view that equates true spirit with wild ani...

Re: How to talk about God: on why God is not an object

And this precisely is the paradoxical problematic under dualism. Power may be used or abused. Evocation arrives with an evil twin -- light/dark, good/evil, love/hate, God/Satan -- and some of the greatest atrocities are executed with good intentions. The Inquisition was an attempt to rid the world ...

Re: How to talk about God: on why God is not an object

Was John Wheeler quoting God, when he said: There is no 'out there' out there. And then God said: 'Let there be an out there' ... Well sort of "And God said , Let there be light: and there was light." It could be said that a large portion of religious adherents are "people of the Wor...

Re: How to talk about God: on why God is not an object

The question of how to talk about God and what to say has been around for millennia. The first question is, why might it be important to talk about God. I think the answer is that as finite creatures we have an ingrained need to think about the ultimate. This is personal because it directly impinges...
