Re: Message from BK

Since the forum is not longer associated with Bernardo and is hijacked by anthroposophists (be they official members of the organization or independent believers), I have no further interest in participating in it and contributing to the spread of sectarian beliefs. I wish you all the best and to s...

Re: EEG spikes in humans and rats at end of life and what this means for the supposed 'evidence' for idealism

I'm not sure how this makes the neuroscientific evidence against physicalism less problematic. (Terminal lucidity, psychedelic experiences, hypoxic experiences, etc.) But this is already addressed in Greyson's response. First, the 'spike' in brain activity is much weaker than waking state activity ...

Re: Are there any SIMPLE books refuting what Bernardo calls "The materialism of qualities"?

Bernardo seems embarrassingly uninformed about how neuroscience understands vision and other senses work. In the article, he seems to believe that materialism somehow requires that the brain be a passive recorder of the external world like a camera. No.. he's talking about a TYPE of materialism tha...

Re: Susan Blackmore: Scientific Evidence and the Near-Death Experience

One of the things I learned from this interview that I didn't know was about the spike in electrical activity found just before death in humans. I knew this spike had been detected in rats but didn't know it had been detected in humans. I managed to track down the study that Blackmore mentions. In ...

Re: Problems with the body being the external image of experiential states

Kastrup says that we only experience what it is like to be the nervous system. That seems to be true upon introspection. So removal of a leg won't change your inner life (apart from how it impacts the nervous system).

Re: A theory that the universe might be a neural network

You can surely see a difference between spotting patterns as a kid and getting a quantitative analysis of structures that concludes that they are identical mathematically published in a peer-reviewed journal? True, but a mathematical analysis is far from being a proof that there is any relation. Th...

Re: A theory that the universe might be a neural network

When you look for analogies you always will find one. When I was kid I was passionate in finding patterns in the clouds resembling animals and people and always found one. But extrapolating from that to reality is not much more than wild speculation. You can surely see a difference between spotting...
