Re: The Dimensionless Consciousness of Analytic Idealism (and Advaita)

After reading many of Bernardo’s writings on analytic idealism and also becoming absorbed in Advaita Vedanta philosophy á la Rupert Spira, I realized that they both acknowledge the inherent dimensionless quality of the one consciousness, which is reality itself. What I mean by the term ‘dimensionle...

Re: Does time flow?

The idea of a moment of time, a present moment, is a convenient construct no less than the idea of a thing. So my question would be, ‘Do we actually experience the present?’ and my answer would be: No. I agree with what you are saying, though I would put it that the problem is BK's definition of 'p...

Re: Cleric's Responses to Mystical Metaphysics (or How to Make a Logical Argument)

What, in particular, do you consider "preachy" in how Cleric or Ashvin have presented and argued for their views, as distinct from the way BK, say, presents and argues for his? The distinction is fuzzy but there is a difference. BK created his own platform and keeps all his content there....

Re: Consciousness, A Priori Reasoning and Pluralism

I find ‘matter arises in consciousness’ problematic as well. It is true our ‘representations’ of matter arise in consciousness. That should lead to the question - ‘is there anything to matter other than our representation of it?’ It is hard to be convinced ‘matter’ = ‘representation of matter’. Yes...

Re: Intuitive Idealism vs. Analytic Idealism (Part II): An alternative formulation of idealism

There is definitely changeless aspects of consciousness, I've been telling it to you all the time, and you can actually directly experience them. But "changeless" is not the same as "Eternal" (unless we are again confused about terminology). I think there is confusion. The techn...

Re: The World According to Barfield

I really liked Vernon's book. I read it a while ago but, from memory, it seems to me that Vernon brings Barfield up to date with contemporary times by not implying that the road to final participation necessitates the dying out of indigenous cultures. Why shouldn't they die out? All cultures do. Ou...

Re: Problems with the body being the external image of experiential states

At the same time, the idea that legs would then be made out of 'leg thoughts' that mind at large is having, and that we are temporarily using these thoughts, seems much less elegant then the traditional idea of gradually evolving a pair of legs because it's good for survival. There is no conflict h...

Re: Problems with the body being the external image of experiential states

I'm mainly interested in seeing if someone can answer my question from the vantage point of Bernardo's theory. Here is how I would answer the question -- not sure if BK would agree with it. It is that it is not quite accurate to say my legs are the external representation of a portion of my subcons...
