Re: Bernardo vs Graham Oppy!!
I don't know where I stand in terms of thinking we would necessarily make a deeper link with author by knowing them personally, but I appreciate the thought experiment and can certainly think of the kind of situations where you really would need to know them in person. AshvinP, I didn't know you poi...

Re: Science and Religon via The Vault
A lecture where Rudolf Steiner opens by paraphrasing Schopenhauer in his own words and then never explicitly ties the themes of the lecture to his rewording of Schopenhauer. He never even mentions his own free rendering again. Some would excoriate Steiner for that. Some wouldn't even a bit. And that...

Re: Science and Religon via The Vault
Major flaws in this piece of art! Ah, fascinating! What are the major flaws in Picasso, Joyce, and Shakespeare? The Vault's flaws must be (?) defined by their goals... Most people haven't found what the Vault was aiming for..... Why am I not surprised that you are already ready to teach a course on ...

Re: Science and Religon via The Vault
"Anthroposophy works to bring science and religion closer to each other’s spheres of experience, yet they will necessarily maintain and express unique gestures of humanity." I wonder if students of Steiner -- including myself - would be surprised to discover this was or was not something h...

Re: Bernardo vs Graham Oppy!!
Above, Soul said this was just like most of the others conversations he's seen with Barnardo. I can respect that and I really think I know what he means. Obviously I found this to have some very interesting differences. I'll wait to see if others enjoyed this for new reasons before I go on.

Re: Bernardo vs Graham Oppy!!
I personally can sympathize with Bernardo's frustration over how Graham spoke about qualia, but I still remember when I shared Graham's view so I don't find it quite so perplexing. The hard part for me is grasping what specific communication can really shift that point of view. I think it goes beyon...

Re: Bernardo vs Graham Oppy!!
What a beautiful moment when Bernardo said that. You can call it psychoanalysis but I call it describing something beautiful. I can't tell if you are just too triggered at this point to interpret me. I know Lou probably can see what is so sweet in Bernardo suddenly stating his surprise. But it isn't...

Re: Science and Religon via The Vault
The quoted material is the piece. That is why they don't meta-comment from within the piece, in my opinion.

Re: Bernardo vs Graham Oppy!!
When speaking to very smart people who haven't yet grasped what Bernardo means by matter being the extrinsic picture of a subjective experience, I think it is not a great idea to use the metaphor (a metaphor by Bernardo from Bernardo's perspective) of a photon hitting the eye as necessary for seeing...
