Re: "Idealism and Consciousness": My Comment/Challenge to BK

Forgive me for intruding, but I can't resist adding a quote from Kuhlewind. He doesn't speak in terms of a "structured spiritual reality" but rather of the "superconscious" that gives rise to the totality of our experience. This term is decidedly less Christian in orientation tha...

Re: Anthroposophy for Dummies

Yeah, so how is that different from a complement? ;) Ashvin, you're right, that was weak. It's really more like "agonizingly long-winded and far too fond of argumentation." But even so, it's growing on me, I guess. By "what it should be ‘seen’ as", I mean the thing that ...

Re: Anthroposophy for Dummies

Thanks, DKP, for the fine, even if exaggerated, complement :) And also for the link - I will defnitely give it a read soon. In case you missed it, I discuss Husserl a bit in my latest essay (linked below). I am also just becoming more familiar with his phenomenology, and I agree the parallels with ...

Re: Anthroposophy for Dummies

Ashvin: So yes, the physical structure of eyes, ears, etc. are partial images of ideal (mental) processes. However, if we ever want to get more detailed resolution on how those processes function in our immanent experience, then we must recognize that there is ideal structure to sense-observation, ...

Re: (Essay) Solipsism: Facts and Fictions

I'll take the revival of this cynical rumour as an attempt at humour. For the record, I've looked into the posting history of both Cleric and Ashvin, as well as their account details which only admin has access to, dating back to the old MS forum, and I'm satisfied that there is simply no evidence ...

Re: Bernado's Mathematical Universe

Thanks, I didn't follow the progression of this thread but now it's obvious that Kampis is addressing a different audience.

Re: Bernado's Mathematical Universe

I was curious to find out if Bernado addresses the "unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics" in any of his discussions or writings. How does a mathematical universe spring from a non-mathematical consciousness? If consciousness is mathematical, shouldn't that be a central part of the pr...

Re: How is there a world that remains when not being perceived?

I think I agree if I am understanding correctly. Jung famously remarked that he would never call himself "a Jungian". Which I take to mean that he was focused on exploring the psyche in a way that went far beyond academic and clinical psychology, down into the roots of philosophy and meta...

Re: How is there a world that remains when not being perceived?

If you are a solipsist m@l separates between object and subject, if you are an idealist it doesn't. I do not know if the word consciousness is the word I would use for m@l since our consciousness experiences reality not only through thought and will, but also through senses, sight hearing and so on...

Re: How is there a world that remains when not being perceived?

The reason questions like this come up is, to me, the incompleteness of all the descriptions of idealism (analytical or otherwise) we seem to be able to come up with. We can't describe the unfathomable depths of the soul, nor the limits of our perceptions that tell us everything in such a literal mo...
