Re: Criticism

Ok. 2nd try. the Intellect gave us separations such as "E", etc. It was Reason which recognized the unity in "E=mc 2 " as per quote from Steiner: The intellect causes the separation of the individual configurations — because they do indeed confront us in the given as individual ...

Re: Criticism

OK, that's basically the Russel's Correspondence Theory of Truth and makes sense. However, SS also claims that the percepts are essentially the offspring of the "wider content" world of ideas. Which means that essentially there is a special kind of a "unified and harmonious" set...

Re: Criticism

But Einstein. Metaphysically, is it possible that he was using the True Concepts of "E", "=", "m", "c", and " 2 " and he used Reason to put them together. The math to justify it scientifically in that case came after. Concepts as E, m, c are arrived...

Re: Criticism

so no lightbulb above his head? Oh, there is lightbulb. I would say scientist today don't even grasp the full significance of these ideas. Re: Criticism

Now I'm getting confused here. You/RS are saying that there is a "unity and harmony of the whole world of ideas". Great, but you are also saying that there is a "phantom layer of abstract thoughts". Aren't the abstract thoughts also ideas? Do they still belong to the "unity...

Re: Criticism

Ok. i can work with that. Just to check if we're all on the same page, (using the above definition of Reason), we DO agree, that when Einstein came up with E=mc 2 , he exercised both Intellect and Reason, right? This is something much more convoluted. We can say that he used Reason when he tried to...

Re: Criticism

Not necessarily, it may be intuitive. But before we go into this discussion, can you give us your description or definition of Reason? What is this term referring to in our conscious/thinking experience? I also like you posts that are less than 3-pages long ;) Believe me, I dream for the day when i...

Re: Criticism

From idealist standpoint one of the unwarranted assumptions in Steiner's philosophy is that if reality is meaningful it necessarily implies that it is reasonable and knowable by cognitive faculty of reasoning. But that it not necessarily true. The reality can be meaningful but still unreasonable/a-...

Re: Criticism

Eugene, I understand your concerns. Let's just mention that PoF (and later SS) do not rely on foundational assumptions. Yes, your Steiner quote really is presented as philosophical statement, which can be criticized in the way you do but it shouldn't be forgotten that in PoF we start from the givens...
