Re: Entanglement etc. Materialism vs. Idealism

Two Absolute Idealists were walking in the countryside when one fell down a hidden well. The one up top said, "Well, well, well! You get to experience the thing-in-itself. Can you describe it?" The one down below said, "It's phenomenally cold, dark and wet." The one up top said, ...

Re: Criticism

reason recognizes the unity. If we have the following two perceptions: 1. the sun shining down and 2. a warm stone, the intellect keeps both things apart, because they confront us as two; it holds onto one as the cause and onto the other as the effect; then reason supervenes, tears down the wall be...

Re: Criticism

A major part of the problem with Reason, is it's unclear when it's being applied ingenuously. People on opposite sides of a debate claim to use reason. But feelings tend to come first, and that results in rationalisation. Confirmation bias is something we tend not to recognise in themselves - only i...

Right. I almost asked that as well. words words words. Our oh so limiting mode of communication...
I think what all this shows is that we need a glossary of Spiritual Science. If it doesn't exist, would somebody write one? I'd appreciate it.

Re: Criticism

But if you are really expanding in the Cosmic Mind, why shouldn't it be possible to find there the ideating activity of beings? Not in other realms but in the same realm of the Cosmic Mind that you expand into. Currently, I see it like this: It's not an ideating activity, but it does enable inspira...

Re: Criticism

"at all other levels we have ideas in the process of being", "biological life is only a decohered shadow of more fundamental forms of growth", "Inspirative realm", "a small bacterium is the interference of countless beings", "in other places we have mean...

Re: Criticism

Yet these worlds are not isolated, they form a gradient. And it's man's task to gain consciousness of the meaningful flow not only within the intellect but also in the other strata of reality. Yes, of course we can know more than we know now, but if the thing-in-itself is truly an idea outside time...

Re: Criticism

I think I actually understand Cleric at last! But I don't 'think' the problem is at the level he puts it. When I lift and hold the pencil and use it, I understand it up to a point (heh!). But how does thinking about it improve my understanding of it and bring me to the thing in itself? For example, ...

Re: Criticism

Reality may, and most likely will turn out to be much more rich and deep than these views tend to believe. I agree. But I'd add: we tend to adopt a worldview that naturally resonates with us. I don't think we can just reason our way to a different worldview, because reason is not our primary motiva...

Re: Criticism

Eugene, it seems you're temporarily off the hook. Do you want me to invite back that neutral monist who insists "value" is the ontological primitive? ;-)
