Cathartic Nihilism, Radical Activism & Nietzsche's God | Philosophy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6gQEpFpLec In this video I talk about human existential nihilism of the modern age in the 21st century and how it may be possible that radical activism within anti-natalism, veganism and climate activism correspond to bringing about catharsis in relation to the mode...

Methods of Shifting our Habits of Mind

If we are to assert this sense to be an illusion we should really be able to extract that idea from the given. This is a typical example of the paradoxical situations we reach when we build upon abstract ideas. As long as we are dealing with abstract logic, for every statement we can form its inver...

Re: Can Idealism be without thought?

We have established that awareness is something that we can form a concrete idea about - we have the steps to experience it directly from the given. But if we construct a thought like "awareness dreams existence", we need to very vigilant. Quite impalpably, the concept of "awareness&...

Re: No Objective Space or Time = No Free Will or Events

I obviously can’t tell whether any of you have free will, but I certainly do. It’s shaped by all kinds of things including my evolutionary driven instincts, my emotions, and the realities of the world. Nonetheless I can chose how I respond to the world, and how I act in the world. Isn’t that a fund...

Re: Schizophrenia, Sin and the Self (Owen Barfield)

A person who is not first motivated to provide for their own needs and orient their own habits of thinking is useless to everyone else. Your [preceding the above clip] answer is unrelated to what I said. If my recollection is correct, I talked about peeps who regarded their "'self' as being 'm...

Re: Schizophrenia, Sin and the Self (Owen Barfield)

Anyway, Barfield was aiming his criticism of 'sinful' behavior entirely within Western culture. Hence his example of the "white man's guilt". Cool. Then we agree that it is not a fair projection into how symptoms of schizophrenia and psychosis are interpreted and experienced in non-Europe...

Re: Schizophrenia, Sin and the Self (Owen Barfield)

Barfield's take was more metaphysical. He was not identifying 'sin' with 'selfishness', although the latter can be a manifestation of the underlying metaphysical sin. Another manifestation of that same sin could be extreme self-hate and lack of self-confidence and assertion of one's will. I don't k...

Re: Schizophrenia, Sin and the Self (Owen Barfield)

I get (at least I think I do) what Barfield talked about. What I talked about included that (I think). Barfield's take was more metaphysical. He was not identifying 'sin' with 'selfishness', although the latter can be a manifestation of the underlying metaphysical sin. Another manifestation of that...
