Re: I'm A Materialist, Change My Mind

It is a leap, but is it any smaller a leap than that which the materialist takes, namely, how purely non-conscious activity can somehow produce conscious activity? So the question becomes: which leap is the more rational to make? Well I would argue the leap to materialism is not that large. It's no...

Re: What does nonduality actually imply?

Is this saying that since I cannot know if belief A is true, and cannot know if belief B is true (and beliefs, C, D, ...) that I should believe they are all true? I find this illogical. And meaningless.

And what does this have to do with nondualism?

Re: Question for Scott About Mumorphism

Isn’t there a sense in which you are talking about a duality between absolute and relative as if it’s the same as a duality between form and formlessness? If one considers "formlessness" to be "absolute" in the sense that there is no going beyond it to something else, then I wou...

Re: Question for Scott About Mumorphism

A lot of this discussion went over my head, so forgive my philosophical baby talk, but in my simplistic reading it seems that Scott is talking about god as the conscious universe, and Neoplatonist is talking about the god as the absolute, that which created and sustains the universe. I would say ne...

Re: I'm A Materialist, Change My Mind

Firstly, why am I not an idealist by default, given that it seems to be the most obvious ontological position? The whole philosophy seems to be predicated on that very fact that it is the most obvious ontological position anyone can take. I disagree. I would say the most obvious philosophical posit...

Re: What does nonduality actually imply?

Ok, first ignore my previous comment, as I now see it is irrelevant to your concern. Second, as far as I can tell, what you call "non-absolutism" is what is usually called "skepticism". Am I right? If so, then I would say that you are totally confusing things by calling it a form...

Re: What does nonduality actually imply?

I have a few questions regarding what we can actually know about nonduality. As a preface, I currently see nondualism as a category of belief systems (monism, nihilism, etc) and nonduality as the concept itself of not-dual. Does nonduality imply the absolute/ineffable is all their is? Aka...does it...

Re: Cosmic Consciousness: meta-cognitive or non-meta-cognitive?

Now, I can see three possible developmental scenarios here, and the question is which of the scenarios would be more likely: 1. The development of non-meta-cognitive ideational states of a physicalist character (a variety of "imagined" by the MAL physicalist universes) leading though natu...

Re: Cosmic Consciousness: meta-cognitive or non-meta-cognitive?

@Eugene I think in an earlier discussion of this topic we agreed that even if the "most fundamental" MAL is non-meta-cognitive, there had to be meta-cognition prior to the formation of physical reality, to explain its order and fine-tuning. In other words, this reality we find ourselves in...

OK... then Scott it is 8-)
Alas, what Cleric said about capability in a real time environment applies doubly to me. :)
