Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo
So do you agree that we are 'bottoming out' at some thing/process which has continuity of experience, i.e. some before and after 'identity'? Yes, we are bottoming out at this continuity and at the very awareness of the conscious experience ("experiencing of experiencing"), but I don't see...

Re: Would it be the only ultimate experiment for proving/disproving consciousness surviving death?
That's what they did in Pam Sanders NDE case and in Sam Parina NDE studies. But none of those experiments would prove consciousness surviving death, they can only prove that consciousness and memory is independent of any brain activity detectable by EEG or other life-monitoring instrumentation. But ...

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo
Lou, I can see you are really getting into the non-duality (or so-called for the lack of a better word). It's a fascinating journey.

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo
There's something common in both states, that is able to witness the transition. (again, not arguing about ontic "I". It's just difficult to escape the specifics of language, which is designed to express in this way) So I fully agree that we need to de-identify but I should say that this ...

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo
There's only one way for this to be resolved and it is to seek consciousness of the deeper strata. Your example of the iceberg is great - actually I've used the same analogy in the post I'm preparing. So we are either condemned to live in a world of opinions, where everyone can equally support his ...

Re: Butterfly Memory Defies Materialism
When I think of the richness of all the information that has passed through consciousness and how much of it can still be recalled, I have serious doubt in the ability of a few billion neurons to store that kind of information. Either it is stored in smaller structures -- or a material paradigm is ...

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo
Meditation where will and thought are experienced clearly, lead to very different results compared to that of putting the will to sleep. I'm planning to write something about the nature of these results, some of the following days. Cleric, thanks for your insightful post. I agree that Buddhists ign...

Re: Butterfly Memory Defies Materialism
I think there are some interesting questions that are being missed by assuming that the memories were stored in neurons. Well yes, the question is: can there be any mechanism for storing information in biological structures other than storing it in in the synaptic neural networks? In theory yes, pe...
