Re: Rudolf Steiner's Fifth Gospel by John David Ebert

Thank you, Ashvin! I deeply appreciate this. Not for my own sake but because of the great Work that lies in front of humanity. Work that we need to do fully consciously and in complete freedom, out of Love for our Highest Ideal.

Re: Rudolf Steiner's Fifth Gospel by John David Ebert

We all partake in the same Spirit of Thinking and Morality. True freedom is when those thoughts and moral activity naturally and consciously flow from the essence of our Being, rather than secular or religious decrees from the 'priests' on high. Of course the latter is always necessary to some exte...

Re: Rudolf Steiner's Fifth Gospel by John David Ebert

I tried to raise the question of higher cognition because it is only in this way that one can understand why it has been at all necessary to say something about the races. (Below I'm simply sharing my own direct experiences, so please don't consider I'm asserting beliefs to anyone) The general view ...

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo

It is when we take them as firm beliefs as if they actually describe the reality as it is - this is where we lock ourselves into fixed and limited perspectives, and as a consequence, often get confrontational with people who do not share our beliefs while feeling righteous about such confrontation ...

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo

OK. Here we go again. Your full statement was "There's no such direct experience that in itself says "by the way, I'm not real". We can come to such conclusions only consequently, through thinking." However, one chooses how to identify (attach) to the experience. The meditative ...

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo

One can argue that we all have this undeniable sense of "self" with which we associate the concepts of "doer", "experiencer" etc., and that sense is exactly the experience that is ground of the abstraction of "self". However, my argument is that such sense of...

Re: Rudolf Steiner's Fifth Gospel by John David Ebert

Thank you, David, for the quotes.

That's not what I had in mind with "higher cognition" but I'll try to make it clear later.

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo

Of course there is. The direct experiential percept of "I'm not real" is it not being there. One learns what is not the same way one learns what is. Lou, I think that it has been discussed here many times already and I don't think there are many people here who consider the incarnate self...

Re: Metaphysics - Idealism without woo-woo

Eugene, I think I understand your dilemma. As long as we experience the thoughts as floating leaves, blown by the currents of our inner life, I can perfectly resonate with your suspicion if these thoughts can ever tell something about reality. This is not to limit the unlimited realm of thinking and...

Re: Rudolf Steiner's Fifth Gospel by John David Ebert

There's no point in this. Throwing mud on personalities can never resolve anything. I guess that whoever reads Schopenhauer is interested in the ideas themselves and not so much in his personality. I'm pretty sure people examine even less strictly (if at all) the personalities of mediums (or more fa...
