Re: A Buddha Fantasy
Reminds me of this from Robert Anton Wilson A man who had studied much in the schools of wisdom finally died in the fullness of time and found himself at the Gates of Eternity. An angel of light approached him and said, "Go no fur- ther, O mortal, until you have proven to me your worthiness to ...

Bernardo's Creation Myth
"In the begging, the imagination of mind at large consisted of fleeting, disconnected ideas and feelings. Incoherent and evernescent flashes of cognitive activity.Mind at large instinctively recognised these ideas and feelings to be of its own making, unfolding within itself, just as you recogn...

Re: BK in conversation with Tom Cambpell
He is positing something outside of consciousness that conscious 'jumps' into. This is a good way of putting it. But thinking about it a bit more, he would say that the evolving VR is itself still a form of consciousness, just "partitioned off" from the rest. Or, in more usual Idealistic ...

Further thoughts: In many ways, TC's computer game metaphor is bizarre. He said a Virtual Reality works by setting up initial conditions, then pushing the "run" button. In due course, life evolves. But since consciousness has to "log on" to avatars, there is an implicit assumpti...

Re: Bernardo's talk with Lance Butler
The desire to maintain the thinking-self is very strong - and all efforts will be sought to keep it - but the thinking-self doesn't exist. There are only thoughts about the thinking-self, thoughts to rehearse and cling to with other thoughts. The thinking-self is the shiniest and perhaps most glori...

Re: Bernardo's talk with Lance Butler
Well, I am sure you will at least admit we have tried to explain the objections in just about as many ways as can be imagined at this point. From highly involved essays with pictures, videos, and what not to more bullet point arguments in brief posting. From the angle of modern philosophy, ancient ...

Re: Bernardo's talk with Lance Butler
I think that any argument against 'analytic' philosophy will have to engage BK on an analytic level. BK has repeatedly referred to people like Hegel, Whitehead and to an extent Steiner as being obscurantists. I admit some sympathy with this as I can't get my head around many of the objections poste...

Re: Bernardo's talk with Lance Butler
he language does not seem precise to me! Yes, clarity of expression is one of BK's greatest attributes. It astonishes me how someone for whom English is not his native language can be so clear and precise. Many of the best English speakers I have met have been like that. They learn in a formal sett...
