Re: Analytic Idealism and theory choice

Thus, perhaps analytic idealism can be characterised as useful step towards its own negation and replacement by something better. Good observation. Analytic idealism is consciously and polemically targeting materialism and analytical philosophy. Continental philosophy, which starts from German idea...

Re: Consciousness and Civilization

I mean it is logically a separate question, of course. First we must try to understand what dynamics are taking place to form civilizations. Forming an ethical commitment first and then proceeding to look at those dynamics after will only result in goal-seeked conclusions. That seems to be a lot of...

Re: Individualism

Not a bad metaphor. The problem is, in-divi-dual digits of digital individing have been complaining about alienation and general loss of meaning. The fingering possession of their full humanity by the Grabbing Hand may serve some higher purpose, which can be only speculated, but on our human level t...

Re: Consciousness, Civilization and Citizenship

Advice for less lethal negotiation? Endless practice of RESPECT as a fundamental custom. A culture or a civilization is a habit, a habitual way endlessly projected onto the world. How? Same as with any habit, by practice. I've already cited an example in other threads, an example of being heart-cen...

Re: Consciousness and Civilization

Well, maybe the casual without "" is the collateral damage of the "Manifest Destiny"? The ethics of it all is a separate question. To reduce or not to reduce, that is the question. Ethics is always present. In how we read and react according to our emotional commitments and cust...

Re: Consciousness, Civilization and Citizenship

I propose that we discuss how we humans might become citizens among all beings -- human and other -- and how to live out in practice inter-being. As a basis for discussion I offer the following podcast which challenges the listener toward lion-hearted leadership. This a matter of custom, not law. N...

Re: Consciousness and Civilization

There's nothing "casual" about suggesting all of Western religion, philosophy and civilization since the time of Plato/Aristotle can be reduced to an exercise of imperial domination and ultimately useless "truth-seeking" behaviors. Maybe that's not what you believe, but you sure...

Re: Consciousness and Civilization

I don't prioritize social, cultural, commercial or political 'events'; I don't prioritize history, meta-cognition and language. Pointing to erosion of topsoil, 'over-population', disease, etc. as the core reasons for the rise and fall of civilizations would be prioritizing those 'events' IMO. There...
