Re: Entanglement etc. Materialism vs. Idealism

nuggets of wisdom from Jim. who would've thought... ;-p

maybe the question is; after enlightenment, are they still mountains, or are they Mountains? as in "still mountains but instilled with more meaning than before."

Re: Criticism

Would I be wrong to say that in the both cases above, when speaking about Reason, you actually imagine the intellect? Abstract arrangements of concepts that try to make a mental picture of reality through their own means? Not necessarily, it may be intuitive. But before we go into this discussion, ...

From idealist standpoint one of the unwarranted assumptions in Steiner's philosophy is that if reality is meaningful it necessarily implies that it is reasonable and knowable by cognitive faculty of reasoning. But that it not necessarily true. The reality can be meaningful but still unreasonable/a-...

Re: Criticism

I wrote all this at the beginning, but it was generally ignored so I’ll do it again. In the 19th century, reason had become a questionable basis for knowledge. Of course, Nietzsche was the most prominent philosopher to refute the validity of reason, but those from other fields played a role. Henri ...

It's not really, but Jim clealy set it up as such. I'm now curious if - since he's a metaphysical nihilist by his own admission - he is willing to take cheap shots at Materialists as well.

Re: Entanglement etc. Materialism vs. Idealism

My metaphysical belief system is anti-metaphysics. Similar to "none of the above". Jim, do you realize that when you are responding to me, you already subscribed to a metaphysical belief that my mind (with its conscious experience) exists. But you have no way to prove or verify this exper...

Re: Criticism

What philosophers call the absolute, the eternal being, the ground of the world, what the religions call God, this we call, on the basis of our epistemological studies: the idea. Everything in the world that does not appear directly as idea will still ultimately be recognized as going forth from th...

Re: Entanglement etc. Materialism vs. Idealism

There aren't some with greater problems than others. How do you justify such a statement? Do you agree that different metaphysics struggle with different problems? If so, what metric do you use to claim that these different problems in their totality (per metaphysic) are all of the same size? That'...
