Re: If you believe in a personal soul, why?
I didn't answer him because I've yet to formulate a good answer. But you've had some good points I didn't think about.

Re: If you believe in a personal soul, why?
You may be right, I don't know. To me, it felt like, just, total, complete wholeness, a unity with everything. Completeness, but also "nothing". I thought of it as a peak experience because I can't imagine anything more transcendental and "whole" than that, but then again, before...

Re: If you believe in a personal soul, why?
It's quite marvellous how deviously cunning ego can be, what a wonder! Of course ego is just a self perpetuating loop of talking over in 1st person to avoid listening, a bundle defence mechanisms of abstract spatial thinking, but you gotta admire the beast! PS: it takes an ego to know an ego. :) I'...

Re: If you believe in a personal soul, why?
I myself became interested in Hinduism (and religions in general) after I had a peak experience and got into idealism. I have another question for you, completely irrespective of the previous one. Do you have any opinion on why Brahman created dissociated fragments of himself, and what purpose the w...

Re: If you believe in a personal soul, why?
I know I have not yet given any arguments for either of those conclusions. I will have to get back to you on that later. I'd appreciate it. You are right, what I currently think is I have no idea what's beyond death, so I go with the simplest answer I can conceive, which is what I wrote down. I nev...

If you believe in a personal soul, why?
As I see some of you here have a belief in a personal soul that retains some degree of identity and integrity after a person's death. I see no good logical reason for this. The way I see it, our physical body, including our brain, is a specific configuration of M@L, and they carry everything that ma...

Re: The vertigo of eternity
Thank you for the clarification. Other than Steiners book, can you recommend something to read as a beginner in the topic? I'll definitely look that book up, thanks. Btw in the meantime I was thinking about something. Religions and esoteric traditions other than Buddhism maintain the existence of a ...

I'll definitely look that book up, thanks. Btw in the meantime I was thinking about something. Religions and esoteric traditions other than Buddhism maintain the existence of a self that survives after the death of the body. But at the same time, the original idea of Hell in many traditions - before...

Re: The vertigo of eternity
I obviously have a lot to learn about mysticism. I only recently became interested in it, because before my experience I was certain stuff like that were balloney. It's both fascinating and terrifying to me. Fascinating, because it opened up vistas I couldn't even imagine before. It's like I've been...

Re: The vertigo of eternity
Hey, thanks for responding. That's very interesting, I've always been fascinated by what music is and I believe it may have a very fundamental quality to it - a metaphor that we naturally understand. People are cross-culturally able to identify whether a piece of music is happy or sad, calm or angry...
