Re: René Guénon and traditional metaphysics
Ashvin, there's nothing abstract about this. We have records of several jivanmuktas, who were said to have realised this absolute state in life. The question is, whether you claim that the state these sages achieved is inferior or at least different to the state one can realise today. The critique y...

Re: Theolocution between BK and Sabine H on 22 Feb
My subjective summary: Bernardo: "You're bending over backwards in a futile attempt to rescue physicalism!" Sabine: "No, you silly. I'm just trying to make the math fit with general relativity for enhanced predictive power. And by the way, you read the wrong article..." It was e...

René Guénon and traditional metaphysics
I've just finished reading two treatises by French traditionalist René Guénon on the metaphysical doctrine of the Vedas: Man and His Becoming according to the Vedanta, and The Multiple States of the Being. These books are pure metaphysics, without any religious undertones (also explaining that anyth...

Re: I feel like Bernardo is getting carried away in a scary direction
So I gave Steiner's example. The man claimed that establishing the State of Israel was a hallucination and history proved that he himself was hallucinating. He made a false presentation, apparently believing in it sincerely, that he "sees." But in fact his thinking was stuck in the subjec...

Re: Towards a G.U.T. in Physics - Consciousness/Love(???) as the fundamental force of nature
Well there's that thing about it not being possible to look into the face of God, because one would die instantly...Ben Iscatus wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 2:22 pm Love released (freely given) seems akin to energy (light). But we can't go too far down that road, or gamma rays would become death by love.

Re: Towards a G.U.T. in Physics - Consciousness/Love(???) as the fundamental force of nature
Firstly, let me say I'm sorry for your loss. With regards to what you wrote, while I'm not sure how much can this be viewed in a scientific framework (since we're talking about the ontological origin of consciousness/nature, and not something that operates IN nature), the concept itself came up in m...

Re: I feel like Bernardo is getting carried away in a scary direction
That's a very simplified take on what my problem is. I don't really have time to elaborate now, but the conclusion I'd rather avoid is that there's no positive and no negative, there's nothing to strive towards, there's no good and bad. That's nihilism. Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing...

Re: I feel like Bernardo is getting carried away in a scary direction
I know I'm not the only one noticing this, but I feel like Bernardo's focus is slowly but surely shifting from a meaning-oriented yet rational philosophy towards something that's basically nihilism in anything but name. Tbh this worries me to some extent, because I think Bernardo is a man of great ...

Thanks for the recommendations to both of you. Lots of new names here for me.
