Re: Can Idealism be without thought?
Attention on some general level of experience is constantly moving. The experiment suggested was not to keep attending some thought-object, but to "chase" attention itself with attention. Is it possible to "directly" catch attention so that it stops moving and stays still or imm...

Re: No Objective Space or Time = No Free Will or Events
Sorry, I really feel dumb in this momentBrad Walker wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 9:16 pm Should pay day loans be legal? Should soft drinks be sold in schools? Etc.
I still don't get it. Soft drinks would be illegal in schools if everyone believed that free will is an illusion?

Re: Can Idealism be without thought?
Question is purely empirical ;) OK. Empiricism it is :D Attention is a more elementary act of cognition - we simply observe a perception and experience certain meaning in relation to it - its concept/idea. In this sense, it is the same to ask if attention can attend itself or if thinking can think ...

Re: Can Idealism be without thought?
Both the thinking process and thoughts which flow therein are 'produced' (i.e. generated) by what I have called 'Brahman' (among other labels). That is the ONE 'root' (albeit said 'root' also has many 'branches') of all Being-n-Doing. Hope to induce you to pull your impressively cogent mind's activ...

Re: Can Idealism be without thought?
Oh, attention and attending attention... can attention catch attention?! Can a hand draw a picture of "itself drawing itself"? :) https://previews.123rf.com/images/psychoshadowmaker/psychoshadowmaker1602/psychoshadowmaker160200097/54540658-human-hands-drawing-itself-in-a-album-on-a-wooden...

Re: Methods of Shifting our Habits of Mind
It seems my question should have been, what else have you written that I can read? Or, if not much else yet, can you keep writing these penetrating and illuminating articles once a day, a week, or whatever is best for you? No, I haven't written anything. Actually I don't have philosophical or any o...

Re: Can Idealism be without thought?
"The potentially liberating and amendatory truth (which ... many don’t appreciate) is that every body (or thought- form ) in existence is spirit ually motivated by a mind fully discriminating intrinsic potency . This was termed ‘atman’ or ‘soul’ by sages of old, who recognized everyone and ev...

Re: Can Idealism be without thought?
I like empirical approach very much. Very scientific! Starting investigation from sight, the visual sense of the "external" is already a (sub?)conscious choice. There is no guarantees that conclusions would be the same if we don't start from sight (which reading invites to do) but instead...

Re: Methods of Shifting our Habits of Mind
Ashvin, Scott already alluded to this. The most down-to-the-core consideration of the matter (to my knowledge) has been expressed in Rudolf Steiner's Philisophy of Freedom (PoF). Because of the sensitive nature of the word freedom , it has been translated with different titles like Philosophy of Spi...
