Re: I'm A Materialist, Change My Mind

[ The only way to make sense of the above mystical references in a formal philosophical way is for God to be a polarity of formlessness and form, two poles of Being-becoming which constitute each other as they work through and against each other. The Eastern view tends to prioritize the formlessnes...

Re: I'm A Materialist, Change My Mind

That would imply formlessness can exist without form, for ex. our thinking activity can exist without thoughts. We know from experience that is not possible. Also if time is not "truly real" how can we even speak of an ontic "origin" and one "prior to" another? Ah, but...

Re: What does nonduality actually imply?

But...what if we do have it right and we are just doubting based on confirmation bias built upon limiting beliefs of what we current accept as true. What if duality IS the truth and not an illusion and the illusion comes from doubt and limiting belief structures? tt is not about beliefs and what we...

Re: I'm A Materialist, Change My Mind

There is nothing in BK's idealism which rules out continuity of form or existence of real 'objects', Well, it might depend on how you are using 'real'. Metaphysically-speaking there would be no such thing as objects. They would not be truly real. Nor would time, so even continuity is reduced for an...

Re: I'm A Materialist, Change My Mind

Respect for standing-up on an idealist forum. What is the point of materialism? What does it explain? How does it help us understand the world? Have you ever met a materialist who has the slightest grasp of how to solve metaphysical problems? Materialism is logically absurd such that a materialist h...

Re: The Nose Dive of Philosophy

Not sure if "here" referred to this thread or this forum. There's another thread called 'more-less mathematics' on the front page, but perhaps the formal section would be best, if this forum is OK. Well, I must concede that much of this math stuff is out of my league, and I'm not always c...

Re: Gabor Maté on Jordan Peterson

We can ditch the word theism and just say there is no incompatibility between Judeo-Christian scripture, metaphysical non-dualism and a personal , supreme God as found in that scripture. In fact, it could be argued that scripture necessitates metaphysical non-dualism, and the reality is that the co...

Re: Gabor Maté on Jordan Peterson

I suppose it depends on what is meant by Brahman ... Paul Deussen states that the concept of Brahman in the Upanishads expands to metaphysical, ontological and soteriological themes, such as it being the "primordial reality that creates, maintains and withdraws within it the universe", th...

Re: Gabor Maté on Jordan Peterson

Why would it be unorthodox? I grew up in Hindu home going to temple once a week and God was mentioned prettty often. Well, yes. Indian religion has thousand Gods. But nondualism is not theism. Plotinus carefully and explicitly warns us against imagining that the Ultimate or 'The One' is God. Nondua...

Re: The Nose Dive of Philosophy

Calculus has been a sick infant from it's birth. We do need medicine of philosophy to heal the baby, so that it can grow strong and wise. This seems an important point, but a big topic. A big topic indeed. My comments to your Weyl article were about some first steps in that topic. I'd enjoy pursuin...
