Re: Pictorial Thinking
From this perspective it should be easier to see how the vividness in which we imagine the envelope in meditation is completely secondary. Even if we can visualize it in photorealistic vividness, we still can't see anything of what is written inside. What's inside comes from the opposite direction,...

Re: Pictorial Thinking
What mental image should we use for our meditative concentration? The image itself is not of prime importance (although it may have an impact if it is emotionally charged, thus initially more neutral images are preferable). What counts is that the image should anchor our more encompassing intuition...

Re: Symphony
Instead of enumerating what the higher self is not and how to free it from the lower, please tell me what makes it individual behind the veil of all the severe misalignments. There is not a word about that so far in this discussion. Federica, here's something that may be seen as rather abstract but...

Re: What Barfield Thought (Max Leyf and Landon Loftin)
Thanks for the link Ashvin. That Steiner was the author had completely escaped me. " Yes, getting anyone's attention pointed to Cleric's essays seems the only way to go at this point, including a lot of people on the Anthroposophical FB page " Ok, I hope this means they are being publishe...

Re: Symphony
Thanks for elaborating, Cleric. I am clearly very far from all this. I was just wondering about ways to help rewiring the experience of music in general, in much more basic terms, having in mind that it's soon the end of music that stirs feelings, as you recently said. Well, in that case it's proba...

Re: Symphony
Cleric, I am glad that it's possible to experience music in the way described! For my part this sounds a long way ahead of what I can hope to grasp at this point. I read the words, but I lack the concepts to extract any meaning, already from “listening with the whole volume of the room”. It was not...

Re: Essay: The Phonograph Metaphor (Part 2)
Thank you, Cleric, this installment I found very lucid and relatively easy to intuitively resonate with at every juncture. Horizontal and vertical thinking ... I found the above one of the most helpful new metaphors you have presented in these essays. We speak about horizontal vs. vertical thinking...

Re: Symphony
... ... I personally take listening to music and meditation (as means of deeper exploration), as distinct activities. And listening to music itself could be of various kinds. One thing I like to experiment with is to listen with the 'whole volume of the room', instead of only ears. In a nutshell, w...
