Knowledge gained via NDE's and other trips.

Any topics primarily focused on metaphysics can be discussed here, in a generally casual way, where conversations may take unexpected turns.

Knowledge gained via NDE's and other trips.

Many thanks to Eugene - this is brought over from GoogleGroups:

At the end there are a few good arguments on how NDEs are different from drug trips.

I strongly 😀 'wish' that folks here read and relate to the entirety of what's 'written' at the linked-to page. Some excerpts therefrom as teasers:
--------
They were like joyful dogs greeting a long-missing, beloved human.
--------
I understood that everything that we do here on Earth, all that we are, all that we experience, allows creation to exist. Every beautiful thing, every wonderful being and creature, whether on earth or in any universe, relies upon people who are on the extremely rare places like Earth.
--------
So what is free will? Free will is the option to come here to help solve the paradox of 'god'. To be all that we are not, so that everything wondrous and joyful may continue to exist. So that love itself may continue to exist. So that the Unlimited is not limited to being only unlimited.
-------
Every soul chose to come here and to suffer [my emphasis youward, Lou] because of love. Each soul loves the universe, loves life, and loves this world and ALL of the worlds. Each soul loves ALL of the people so immensely and intensely that they chose to come here so that all the universes may teem with beautiful, joyful LIFE.
-------
Every creature that I saw, acknowledges that your life gives them the gift of life. And when each soul goes 'home' after they die, they will know the rewards of their own gift, too. The 'reward' for their sacrifice will be joy, love, and feeling incredible, wonderful, beautiful joy at the LIFE and the LOVE everywhere in the universe.
-------
When you go home, you meet your own soul. You willingly came here to forget yourself. You willingly came here to save every beautiful and wonderful thing. By suffering what 'god' cannot, you give the gift of life.
--------
What is your religion now? Other faiths - New age I am a panentheist. I believe that the higher power is in all things, through all things, as all things, and transcends all things. It is loving, aware, and interested.

Yes, I posted this NDE story on Facebook in different NDE groups, because I think it's interesting. God will thank us because we experience things here on Earth. Experiences that God can not experience. It's through our experience that God can know what it is like to experience a human life. God is greatful for that.

I don't know wether this is true or not, but it sounds appealing to me.

Trouble is, if you wanted to persuade someone to do something unpleasant on your behalf, this is the sort of argument you'd use...

Yes, English is not my native language. So, I think I made a mistake in translating what I wanted to say.

It must be:
"I don't know if it's true but I like the idea."

No, I understood you perfectly, Maarten.

I am reminded of a situation in The Unbearable Lightness of Being. The problem becomes apparent only from experience. An open, honest or naive person can be easily manipulated. You may recall in that book how the character Tomas was removed from his post of surgeon because he was not prepared to retract a statement which reflected badly on the Communist regime after Dubcek's disgrace. Tomas is later interviewed by an apparently sincere member of the Ministry (the secret police) who appears to want to reinstate and rehabilitate him. The authorial voice says:

"When you sit face to face with someone who is pleasant, respectful and polite, you have a hard time reminding yourself that nothing he says is true, that nothing is sincere. Maintaining non-belief (constantly, systematically, without the slightest vacillation) requires a tremendous effort - in other words, frequent police interrogations. Tomas lacked that training."

So to be explicit: when you consider how many different reasons are given in NDEs for returning to Earth, then it's perfectly reasonable to suppose that none of them are true.

Ben ... Clearly you've better eyesight than I, since even with the reading specs on I had to get within 6 inches of the screen to read that not-so-rosy Kundera quote ... maybe time to rethink my choice of avatar pic :ugeek:
Here out of instinct or grace we seek
soulmates in these galleries of hieroglyph and glass,
where mutual longings and sufferings of love
are laid bare in transfigured exhibition of our hearts,
we who crave deep secrets and mysteries,
as elusive as the avatars of our dreams.

Or that all of them are 'true', each in its own way. Conceivably at least, there may be any number of 'reasons' why souls may 'return' - just as there may be (are, IMO!) any number of 'reasons' for people taking jobs or undertaking adventures.

Dismissiveness is 'easy', Ben. The ability/choice to learn from others' 'lives' is 'better' (richer?) than just learning on/from one's 'own'.
