Regarding Chrome spellcheck one thing to look at is whether it has become disabled for some reason.

If you right click in the reply box editing area, you should see an option that says "Spell check". If you click that, another menu should come up with options about language and whether you want to "Use basic spell check" or "Use enhanced spell check".

If some of those are unselected, spell check might not be working.

Thanks Jim ... Assuming the spellcheck function is turned on, also mentioned as a possible fix is to turn off the 'enhanced spellcheck' option in chrome settings.
