We are the One: Plotinus’ Participatory Metaphysics

Post by Soul_of_Shu »

From the Secret History of Western Escotericism podcast, an exploration into some of the aspects of Plotinus’ living, participatory universe, in which humans play a constitutive role ...

Here out of instinct or grace we seek
soulmates in these galleries of hieroglyph and glass,
where mutual longings and sufferings of love
are laid bare in transfigured exhibition of our hearts,
we who crave deep secrets and mysteries,
as elusive as the avatars of our dreams.

I am sensing this to be a bit of compensatory function for previously posting Langan hyper abstract TOE : )

I have not yet listened to the podcast, but just wanted to remark, Plotinus is really good spritual resource, as long we understand his participatory perspective. For him, the physical world of our senses barely existed, rather everything around him was permeated by the Spirit through and through. And the real spiritual word which gives rise to all appearances only began beyond the clouds. He did not really even sense a need to distinguish between spiritual and physical worlds. We are forced into such distinctions today and they prove useful for earliest stages of our spiritual journey, but eventually we also need to imagine and inuit Plotinus perspective without sacrificing any resolution.

There is, within our lives,
An exact mystery."

You can thank Curt Jaimungal for enticing this eclectic curiosity seeker into the Langan labyrinth, in which Chris actually mentions Plotinus as a philosopher he admires, so go figure. Same curiosity then led me to stumble upon a mention of the podcast site, where Plotinus popped up again. Somehow the dots keep connecting, whichever door I open, so this eclectic curiosity seeker will carry on.
